I had me a long day and it's only 3 PM.

Brendan, Anna and I videotaped at the Metro Detroit Airport today with almost no hassle!

A major success as all footage is crisp, clean and colorful. Anna was in charge of documenting the process producing excellent photographs. They look like album covers, each one of them!

This pertains to the spatial relation between Eno's ambient philosophy blurring with noise cultures.

Brendan is out right now interviewing Kelly again on the subject of living most of her life in a 5 by 5 foot practice room. This will set us off the educational aspect of the film as we show the "music" life, a sort of 'forced' obsession. Personally, it's difficult to discuss this area but let me tell you this: I have a lot of friends that have had their instrument beaten out of them. Pressured Pianists, Disjointed Double Bass players, Corrosive Cellists. They can be bitter sometimes over such a nice instrument.

But here's some place where I need help.

To put into perspective the definition of noise, I would like to talk to a specialist about Heart Beats at a maternity ward. To find the baby's heartbeat, the mother's heart is dominating and dwarf's the faint heartbeat of the child. In this case, the mother's heartbeat is noise and must be cancelled out. I want to have a little interview on this process for soundbytes however, I have no connection with any hospital's maternity ward. If I can get comments on where to begin, I would be most grateful.

I've been sick so I'm falling behind.

This kind of stuff happens after I make a rough cut, or rough draft, or some BIG THING. I stay up late and it happens to kill me. I've been missing classes as a result, staying home - hopefully not making my roommates sick. At this rate, I am replacing my blood with soup and my soft tissue for kleenex. Deadlines have a bolded dead within their lines. Postcards are in the making, I suppose that makes them Precards.

I made a roughcut. It's roughly 12 minutes long and no where near where I'd like it to be - but there is progress. So far, we feature landscapes, an automatic instrument (music box), a quick idea of noise and music, a performance of henry cowell's piece on the piano, a vague soundbyte from noisecamp, various acoustic noises (white noise, pink noise, etc.), an animation of dots reacting to sound (for demonstrative purposes), a sound test by a noise musician (finding the right sounds triggering memory from a previous show/ 'rockin out'), quick definition of feedback as well as a video of feedback, finally... zone out while listening to organ drone as ice sheets flow on the huron river.

I've compiled the footage together without consulting the rest of the group so I'm curious to see their critique. I've also have been editing until late nighttime so my choices aren't exactly clear. I am excited for the amount of care and trust that is happening within the group.

I found two sites that have math-stronomical audio renderings that may be of resource to the project. The first features the sound of the big bang, compressed into 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 second increments. This may be a good way to start the project or at least to explore the concept.

Feedback Particles Experiment

I have taken the approach of mixer feedback to create and i was imagining ways to help create synesthetic representations of the sound.

with after effects i made this test:

the sound controls aspects of the composition's scale, gaussian blur amount and field of view.

in the piece i hope to incorporate these particles into our surroundings, responding to our creation.

Through the assistance of word of mouth, through us (Brendan now included)

we have amassed 109 members (and climbing, although will soon reach a stablizing point)

There are posts where members can share their two cents, links and all-such.

People have footage, poetry and recordings. Access is delivering across.

This part is slowly trickling in but soon, it will be too much.

Pedal Board Design

I made a cheap adorable design for a mini pedal board consisting of wood + 3 $19 danelectro guitar pedals and a few patch cables. The thought is to have say, 3 of these effect stations and pair up preschoolers: one to synthesize the tone and one to modulate the signal.

Way back before leaving for Ohio, Ian and I discussed the Noise in Schools section of the thesis.
We are considering preschool as our first concern. Later on, the focus will increase in age until we get to the teenager section. For them, we will need to instill a digestable amount of noise history and prehistory. Cambrian, Forungian noise sea creatures, etc. Trilobites and Conalaria as musicians.

insert: I feel everything is related to my thesis. the beauty and harmonic vibration of the natural histories seems to coincide with the information inherent in musical noises. There are intersections everywhere.

Anyways, we made a list of possible instruments to teach (preschool):

Conventional Instruments - Trumpets, drums, etc.
Guitar Pedals - Ian has a better handle on this stuff
Computer - mouse, see built stuff
Theremin - Also provided by Ian.
Built stuff - arduino board, dance pad, etc.
Tuning Forks - suggested by Ian & Sarah

Think of this: children dancing and controling video feedback as performers and as audience members. This could relate back to the fluxus post along the length of Intermedia in combining the forms on the local level (happening) and the global level (the film).

Visuals/ Feedback/ Spinning Vortex Kittens

I have been VJ-ing a lot lately. I've taken the identity of VJ Goldstein. I made a promo with spinning cats in a starfield. There are also lots of footage that remind me of Colleen Lynn Cox's work of archived ancient video that I'm implementing. I'm using Isadora on the laptop, VCR's, VHS Cameras, and a pretty nice video mixer from the school.

There's a link I feel with the prospects of live video mixing with the thesis. It exists separately but with an underlying hum. There's the concept of feedback I use with the mixer. Either I aim the camera at the screen or I plug the mixer back into itself. This builds on some sort of fractal video oscillation that yields out interesting colors and patterns. The results are usually trippy or sick. I will post videos of the results when I have produced them in a cleaner setting.

Feedback is a concept I hope to explain in the video documentary as it is very important in audio generation in noisy circumstances. I have to ask this: Where are the points where audio feedback and video feedback intersect? Can they be used to define one another?

I have been buzzing the idea of Fluxus while washing my hands in my friend's restroom.

I'm remembering the work about a tour-group that took the audience around Museums to show ceiling fixtures, lights, fire extinguishers, etc.

This focus on the mundane/ hidden/ overlooked objects as (soundful) artistic creation lays in the background of my video documentary. It might behoove me to reference fluxus ideology to better explain the subconscious sounds of our surroundings. Of course, I will have to research further than Wiki.

Noise Classes Elaborated

My previous one or two posts mentioned teaching noise to children and my progress with that concept. I also have a textbook about education psychology with wonderful things to consider thanks to my good friend Rachel. I will go into more detail about that later on.

To answer feelgood's comment, I hope to film the children while the noise moments happen. I choose this for several reasons:

1. To educate the children, to get to them before they learn the harsh realities of so-called musical standards that become creatively oppresive.

2. To set the audience in the child's perspective just like children to the new forms of audio. As the team and I find a viable language in its simplicity and concrete nature, the audience will too learn in effort to shake off their predispositions.

3. To place more respect on children by listening to their voices in our worldly creative pool.

I spoke into my phone several ideas. Let me tell you them.

Theo Jansen was really inspiring - particularly when he demonstrated his system of "liars."
Consider three liars in a room X, Y and Z. Each input they received, they must output the inverse.

X says Yes! to Y,
Y says No! to Z,
Z says Yes! to X.
X says No! to Y
and so on.

He used this to demonstrate minds and the transfer of information within a cell body.

I wonder about this with the schematics of a tone generation device, or a synthesizer
and whether or not a metaphor or narrative can be derived in a creative way.

I thought of people with lightbulb-heads holding hands and blinking at each other.

I spoke with my father about this. We are thinking it through. Hopefully there will be an exchange during breakfast tomorrow morning!

Ian showed pictures from Poundhouse. They loved the idea. Schedules need to be checked.

Ian's instruments are childproof but mine currently are not.
I will have to collaborate to make childproof instruments. The free-duino board I ordered a while ago will come in handy in this portion. My bandmate and friend, Brendan is currently outputting physical sound interfaces and will be a great partner in this section. John Marshall & Rodemer will also be useful in this area. Fellow friend, Tiffany Lambert offered to assist me with laser cutting for skinning the machines.

Tuesday Night:

Airport (band = Ronen Goldstein, Ian Fulcher & Brendan Coates)
Session: 25- minute performance applying direct feed from Obama's acceptance speech into noise-space. Idea brought on by Ian and directly manipulated under his control in conjunction with effect pedals, chaos-pad, theremin, morse-code machine and trumpet. Xylophone was out but not used. I was playing keyboard, mic-feedback, drum machine into feedback mixer. Brendan played guitar with computer and physical interface that he recently developed. Guitar was out of tune and B deemed it unusable. B mentioned computer issues yet still enjoyed the set.

Radio became freeing empowering fountain when intertwined with feedback drum machines and crowd cheers as space became transportable and delivered to my living room/ main space.

Dozen + 1/2 crowd present at Obama/ Airport performance.
The method was an odd flourish. Noise + Patriotism. Patriotism revisioning.
Feedback control, complete control of chaotic sound - embracing/ working with machine ghosts oscillation addressing past/present harmonies.

Opened by Laurel & Halolos and opened for Skeletons and Kings of all Cities.
They were all wonderful.

I have much to do before tomorrow's day after arrives. Today with Melissa I bought much art supplies - I almost bought a woodburning kit - for entering my hopelessly cliche cloud franchise. I will try my hand at coasters, tileworks, posters and paintings. On sale, I bought ribbons, paints, and modpodge. They didn't have any stamp making supplies though. I wanted to make little homemade cards to be tied to each cloud that I might sell.

Those are the new tiles. They're still in beta stage and could use a lot more work. I was thinking of washing the tiles in slight blues and teals and then applying the clouds onto that. Or rather applying the colors more evenly, changing the size of each cloud. The tiles are pretty cheap at 14¢ each at Home Depot and they are very easy to 'mass produce.'

Peach is the new Pink-ish. Some 12 new peach clouds dot the cloudscape. There will be more too since I have much peach in my fabric bin - that horrid looking clay pot I made in Sadashi's class. I need to redesign the basic cloud into having more lumps and start encouraging variety besides size. I was also thinking of lining the special ones with this fancy ribbon I bought for only 100 cents. Much to do, much to do.

I seem to only be able to write slow sad songs garageband. I still need to go back and add the other instruments. There's a total of 25 songs now just barely reaching an hour. I was thinking of producing several music videos for the album and try to release them on the internet and sell dvd's at shows and events. I wonder if the people at craftster and whipup would go for that kind of stuff. It seems like they go for more physical stuff, like stuff one could wear. Sometimes being your own agent can wear you out. I don't publicize my shows enough.

I still have my dreams, though I'm not necessarily sleeping well. Work is hard to find and getting the woes down on me. Tomorrow, I'll be leaving the apartment for the first time in 2 days. Well, I held the door for Yoni today... but that doesn't count. I'll go to the farmer's market for a nice walk and maybe get a dollar pie. The photo club had a show in the work gallery. I put two images in by the sunset. One of them features my mom.

I also played some music from the computer and keyboard. Anna played her tapes for the first hour or so with me. Although she was drowned out by an overloading from the reverb effect. Unfortunately, she isn't featured in the photograph. I used the mac program Ivy from sineqube. It's pretty handy and free. You can see more pictures on the Photo Club's blog.

I hand sewn a new pin, my first one actually. It's the smallest cloud at one point five inches by half an inch. It's a terrible stitching job and I didn't stuff it well at all. Ah well, It's a prototype.

Frustration: I've never really been a collector. I almost never look at a magazine, state my want and cut the segment out. I don't really have a box where my memories go. Although I do have a tin of things Rachel gave me but I feel like that's different. They're not like stamps, records, or found sounds. I do have a lot of stuff; they're not very linked though. I have a super 8 camera in the corner, some fabric on the side, piles of colored paper, garage saled paints, etc. If you lump all of those together, you can then call it a collection of things I mean to eventually work with. No fanatical amounts of seashells, no impaled butterflies. No real conscious effort to document the surrounding with physical proof. I'm getting better with the camera now that I stole the digital from my father. I feel pretty discontented alongside other collagists that seem to have huge libraries of neat vintage looking cut outs. I'm hesitant to call myself a collector of anything. I could say that I'm collecting memories but collectors usually tend to their memorabilia - in tight furnished cabinets or displays. I lose my marbles like memories.

There's a reason I think of certain patterns and steps I take to creating a piece. It's voicing what sounds like mumbles and grammatical slurs. Trying to tie my guts in with the world in hopes that it may "take hold" of a person for at least a short while.

Ah that statement just blends in with everone elses' don't it? What am I trying to do here... If you read my Photo Club's blog, you could see my latest idea for the upcoming photography show. I want to do some sort of action photography that would change itself throughout the span of the exhibit. I wish to make an artwork that consistently manipulates itself, or transforms itself at least once. That way, more than one state is presented and then lost to form a newer present. I like the idea of capsules that open up by themselves, things that'll melt, slow diffusion, erosion, etc. I will need to buy a tank to experiment with acids. I am so tired.

I remember being in Israel at this dayish last year and Joey and I would walk around with a video-camera and a wine bottle. That was a good time.

It's 54 degres and blue pixels hanging from the sky. Gave my mom the painting. Saw Yoni and his new haircut. Now we really look different. A small victory there? Well not here: I think I lost one of my friends. Or at least things have exponentially got awkward as I misspoke, misunderstood, and so on. I'm bummed so I'm staying up until I crash. To avoid thinking about this too much I've been reading some articles on Israel and Zeitouna. I still feel real iffy about everything. I updated a bit of my previous post on the Mural titled: Whales. My life is moving a mile a minute. A couple stone throws every few seconds. But now I'm stoneless. This happened a week ago:

I saw Fields of Industry at the Hayford House. It was a potluck, not a very succesful one as far as potlucks go, but a good time nonetheless.

It featured a cute dog.

Later on I had chocolate chip pancakes with Katie. Later on at this wine party, this strange guy mimicked my voice and danced around. I played along for a while.

Then we went to the Celebrate Israel Festival at the JCC in Ann Arbor. There were people protesting outside with signs like: the victims have become the victimizers.

There were children, music, things.

There were little booths that tried to help causes with donations and things.

I didn't know about that spectrum part.

I didn't see very much mention of Palestinians, only one other mural had their flag. The whole fence thing vexes me. I was hoping for more.

I'm not really going to post anything about today or the past few days, folks. I'm just thinking about what I can do here to make this worthwhile and fun for myself. I'm playing with iMovie HD and it's so ridiculously simple to make a silly little video. Needlessly simple - I'm going to switch back to Final Cut. So I might make a video post every weekend or something. Maybe pick a day and just make a slideshow instead of posting a series of images. We'll see what happens. Vlogs have interested me for quite a while.

I really started thinking of how I can be able to support myself using alternative methods. There are a few things I absolutely need before I can start: a Sewing machine, Maya to start working, a steady decent paying job and good people to motivate me. I need to learn my web design, learn how to use dreamweaver. Figure out how to advertise nicely and to have other persons sponser me without clouding my space.

I have most of my ideas and such down I just need the cogs to start spinning with the proper work oil. I want to set up a table for the Detroit Urban Craft Fair and the June Art Hop in Kzoo. Hopefully I'll be able to get into the second one. I may just do it renegade style. Maybe I could get Yoni and his house gang to set up some sort of Lansing DIY festival on his lawn where people can set up shops and have music. This is all just coming to me right now and I have yet to talk to many people about this. I have to design a business card for Amber too. She's getting me into this kind of mindset as well.

Woke up late today. Felt kind of introverted throughout the PM. Max Fabick called me up in the morning to go to this show at his place. So I walked down there and met with Meredith, Meghann and Rob.

They had a guy operating a cappuccino or espresso machine. He was nice and I bought a shot of an espresso for a dollar with a dallop of sugar. A wollop?

The show's vibe was kind of strange and loud. Quite loud for me - I actually spent most of my time watching the show from the window.

This guy is called Grass Canyon I think. He played guitar into a looping pedal and other things were happening. Purple Happenings.

Mere and I watched this duo from the window. They danced with these lights in a violet haze.

This guy wore a mask and produced loud and distorted droning noise. At this point I think the fog machine set off the smoke alarm - I thought it was my ears that were ringing.

I bought Grass Canyon's CD for a dollar and Rob gave me a ride home after having a quick chat with the police of whom showed up about the noise. I still haven't popped it in. Right now I'm listening to Iron & Wine. Talked to Rachel a bit for a few minutes in the cold. I couldn't tell if my legs were shaking cause I was nervous or if I was shivering. I got a new phone, it's really nice that I can see my screen. I had to train myself to really listen to people's voices and seek out their audio mannerisms. It was strange on the new phone, all the voices sounded different - I couldn't recognize anyone! The differences are subtle but there enough to manipulate the experience. My shoulder-blades hurt and I'm kind of hungry.

Totally Awesome Festival: 2nd. I played a set with Cayden though I don't have any images of that. I think Neil took some photos. I will post those later. It was a good show and a quite good festival. The cops came because some guys wanted to give away fashionware on an 'abandoned' lot. Meredith took me and Shaun to get fried pickles at Sidetrack? Those are good and worth the trip. I recommend it.

The band before us was real great. I think it was the 4th Street Jug Band. Check out the accordionist with the hat.

I really enjoy Emily Bates' rendition of Hank William's Rambling Man. Her song, "Wandering Eyes" is really great too.

These guys were pretty good too. They gave off a strange vibe, especialy when that distortion pedal flicked on. The air seemed to have become thinner. That's a melodica on the floor.

Tried looking for a job but I found some deer.

I'm reading about how to shampoo a cat. Few nights ago I formed a band with a bassist, Cayden and an Anna. I played with Cayden today; we didn't sound too bad. I started using the computer more and got some pretty sweet sound manipulations.

Pixels are everywhere. I need to find an alternative for my videogame. This is right next to the unisex bathroom at the Ben & Jerry's.

Which I saw while I was hanging out with Katie. We were on our way to see Karl Pestka & Bob Lester + Satelite. (You can see that I sneezed 20 times that morning.)

Then I couldn't sleep and Morgan ended up calling me in 5 in the morning needing a place to crash. He came by with a lady named Caitlin I think. We played with the clouds that Meredith is featured here drowning in gaseous heaven.

Finished my murals for Eastern's Hillel Program. It's Celebrate Israel. Happening: Sunday, May 7, 2006. In italics and cursive it reads: A Community-Wide Celebration of Israel Through the Decades. It's taking place over at the Jewish Community Center, 2935 Birch Hollow Drive, Ann Arbor. 1:00 - 4:30, $5 or $10 for family (2 or more)

The first one was Jen's idea and the latter's mine. The sides were given to us as: Israel through the decades & peace. I like the way they turned out.

I got my clouds back from the front of Slusser. Now I just need to grab my drawing portfolio and print stuff from the art school and I will wiped free of worry from that place until fall. Tomorrow I'm going to see what's happening with studying abroad in Israel and if that's actually a good idea. Then I'll job hunt a bit around Pierpont and the Duderstadt. After that I'll be helping out Jen from EMU's Hillel design an Israeli peace mural. I'll be discussing it heavily with her in Ypsilanti.

I have made some progress with the videogame. It now features an ocean floor crab-pixel that hops and follows you around but can't swim for some reason and coral reefs that light up when you're close. It is also possible to land on clouds.

I think things need to be less interesting so that I can sleep at night. I think I slept after 4 o clock or so and then woke up at 8 and back until 1:40 PM or so. Anyways, I got rid of all the music on my computer and put it on my harddrive which makes it slightly less accessible. So I've only been listening to the Radio & Internet Radio stations. Here are some that I found. They weren't that good today, but they sure were last night. I've mostly chosen to show the commercial free electronic music channels.

For the mac I found Power Game Factory so I downloaded the demo. I've really been into the concept of exploring so I wanted to address that with my new game. Here's a screenshot. Today is nice out. I walked about a lot. Handed in a few portfolios. Just felt light headed for a bit there. I put a V8 in the freezer. I hope I remember to take it before I go see Katie Johnston sing tonight at Potbelly's. Never thought they had a space for that kind of happening. I can't find my sketchbook. I want to start drawing mazes again. I want to make computer games. I could make something interesting with this. Such as, a gun that can shoot lies or bees. I would try all this stuff out if I had a PC. Also I'm thinking of how I can sell artwork. Maybe latching to a few art fairs and shows somehow like a leech.

One more week of this nonsense. No more waking up in a state of worry at 8:25 for an 8:30 class. I doubt that I'll be leaving the concept of the all nighter behind, but this time I'll be sure to have my day of rest after my night of intensity. Luckily, Yoni found the Final Cut Pro serial number that I've been lacking. Now I just need to fix up Maya so that I can animate for his and my own projects. My computer is highly unreliable right now whereas finder doesn't work, which could really fuck over Yoni and Mere's business trip. Tonight is Passover and it's happening at the worst time possible. I have two projects to complete for Print class and I have no idea what's going on for my Drawing 2 class. I am clueless as to what to do for my 4th iteration for my video. I was thinking of just adding a bit of white noise but it's pretty much worthless talking about it here if I don't post my iterations like I said I would. I'm very low on energy now and I'm having trouble really motivating myself along this board. Why should I really exert myself here on things that don't intensely matter? Put myself through all that nonsense. I don't necessarily derive any pleasure from doing those works. I am constantly daydreaming of having my own sewing machine and make 500 clouds or more dinner times with Alisyn. And a job, I need a job. I absolutely have no time to go look for a job. Someone remove this tapeworm of stress.

It seems to be getting easier to perform live music using the computer. I wonder if it's worth it because who really wants to see someone typing on the keyboard with weird sounds culminating from the hub? Does it matter if I use it as a sequencer while I play more lively live instruments? I definitally want to play with this concept and critique other live computer players. Dustin played a set in which his instruments were concealed inside a briefcase. It was really just a keyboard and a few pedals, I assumed. But I believe the show would not have been different if he were to actually have a computer in that briefcase. Garageband 3 making it easy. This topic is redundant.

My friends kind of bummed me out today. I designed my schedule to really sleep in today but I got the call that I should be in the art school in 1.5 hours so I got dressed and rushed out. They weren't even there yet and I had to wait a while for them. One of my other friends had a kind of out-of-luck-stressed-out-needing-to-be–alone thing going on which could make anyone in a near vicinity feel bad for her and/or for themselves. Long story short, we didn't start working until 9 PM with the addition of everyone outwardly stating that I (or we) should finish by 11 PM. I'm in that terrible group setting where two people would work hard and then another person who would pull an all nighter by himself. Very uneven but there is only one week left of school, so I shouldn't really complain.

That's my entire day. Nothing good has really happened besides those daffodils and a short Whole Foods trip. I sent my number to Allison. I'm anxious and tired. I just want to sink into bed. Yesterday was pretty much the opposite of today.

People should come over and eat all my wheat products before passover hits. Call me up for dinner.

I had quite a time. Pulled an all nighter at the art school (making that metals piece and cloud video ver. 3) and then a potluck in Lansing turning over to the Eurotrash party at the Bower co-op. Then, Meghann Rotary had a Zine release show at the Halfass featuring Alligator Tree, Actual Birds and the High Spirits, Chris Bathgate, and I. Lucky, I have included photographs. Here they exist:

I was so nervous throughout the show since I haven't played any music in a two month period. Especially not full band using a drum machine, keyboards, and/or anything else. People said they liked it. There was a moment in the end that sounded really great where I produced one quivering tone and let it shake into three in sinewave controlled filters.

Then Actual Birds and the High Spirits went on. They were an amazing set playing all the hits.

That's me and Meghann. She pulled off the Zine quite well. She seemed pleased with tonight's event.

After all that I went to a dance party at Arbor Vitae and met and danced with Alisyn until the late hours of the night. Ben played an awesome set on the disks. I am smitten!

Art School Wine? In a cube?

Good morning everyone in the Western Hemisphere. Good evening everyone in the Eastern Hemisphere. Today has been the start of a bad habit. I can't seem to wake up to my phone's alarm. The soft soothing tone of California Dreamin' by the Mamas and the Papas just isn't cutting it. I took a nap from 10 am to 4:30 PM. Ridiculous!

I made the second iteration to my cloud video series. I will be posting that soon as well. This time I included a tone. My dillema here was that I wanted to achieve pure silence in order to delve deeper into video loops - much like Phillip Glass' loops. The video computer lab contains very loud machine humming breathing sounds that is very distracting. I thought of this: Room Noise + Subtractive Synthesis = Silence. This isn't new but I tried it out anyways (without any research!) I produced a very low frequency hum in order to cancel out the machine hum. It didn't necessarily work in the critique but I felt that it complimented the hum pretty well actually. Cynthia said I was on to something here. Noise cancelling? Maybe.

I made a new peice today. Rob helped me out. It uses shards of clay from an archaeological site during the Birthright Israel trip. I submitted this piece to my friends of whom are running a traveling art show in the back of U-Haul around Ann Arbor and the like. It's called: Outside The Box. I'm selling it for $125. Which got me thinking about commercial art a lot but ... I am too drowsy to talk about that right now.

Saturday April 8th will be my show at the East Quad's Halfass venue.
I will be Ronen over easy. Like eggs.

Yes so, every moment lately has been in haste: to complete this website, my portfolio, artist statements, reflection papers, prints, renderings, meetings. I've had no time for cooking and at some points have resorted to eating crunchy peanut butter with cherry preserves in utter speeds. I have only slept 2 hours in the past 2 days, without the aid of coffee. I don't want to put that stuff in my body too much. The light at the end of the tunnel isn't visible yet. I'm listening to this guy.
